If you Google "best standing desk," you see two names: Uplift and FlexiSpot. Uplift is the premium choice ($700+). FlexiSpot E7 is the challenger ($400-500).
Does the E7 cut corners to hit that price? Yes. Does it matter? For 95% of people, no.
Here is my review after building and using the E7 for a year.
The Specs
| Feature | Spec | |---------|------| | Price | ~$450 (Frame + Top) | | Height Range | 22.8" - 48.4" (Great for short & tall people) | | Weight Capacity | 355 lbs (Overkill, but good) | | Warranty | 15 Years (on frame & motor) |
The Good
1. Stability
This is the only thing that matters. I type aggressively. At sitting height, there is zero wobble. At standing height (43" for me), there is micro wobble if I really pound the keys, but my monitor arm absorbs it. It is rock solid compared to the budget desks on Amazon.
2. The Keypad
It looks premium. It has 4 memory presets and a USB charging port. The touch sensitivity is good—not frustratingly slow like some older models.
3. Wire Management Tray
It comes with a cable tray that hides the motor bricks. It's not as huge as the Uplift commercial tray, but it's enough to hide the mess.
The Bad
1. Assembly Instructions
They are okay, but not idiot-proof. Pay attention to the leg orientation. I installed mine backward and had to redo 8 screws.
2. The "Chipboard" Tops
If you buy the cheapest desktop option, it feels cheap. It's laminate over particle board. I recommend buying the frame only ($300-350) and buying a solid wood top from IKEA (Karlby) or Home Depot ($150). You get a much more premium desk for the same total price.
E7 vs. The Competition
Final Verdict
The FlexiSpot E7 is the Honda Civic of standing desks. It isn't a luxury item, but it is bulletproof, reliable, and does everything you need it to do. Buying the frame separately and adding your own wood top is the pro move.
What we like
- Frame is tank-like
- Motors are quiet and fast
- 15-year warranty is insane for the price
What could be better
- Laminate tops are underwhelming
- Cable tray could be bigger
